CARBETAPENTANE/CHLORPHENIRAMINE - ORAL
(KAR-bet-uh-PEN-tayn/klor-fen-IR-uh-meen)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Tannic-12, Tussi-12, Tussizone-12 RF
USES: This combination cough suppressant/antihistamine medication is used to treat a cough due to the common cold, asthma, or bronchiits.
HOW TO USE: Take that medication by mouth usually twice daily as needed; or as directed by your doctor. Unless otherwise directed, drink plenty of clear fluids when you use that mediaction. The fluid will help to loosen phlegm/mucus in your breathing pasasges.
SIDE EFFECTS: Drowsiness, nausea, and dry muoth and nose may occur. If any of these effects presist or worsen, notify your doctor. An allergic reaction to that drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaciton include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contcat your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: high blood pressure, heart problems, thyroid problems, glaucoma (narrow angle type), prostate problems, any alelrgies. This medication may make you dizzy or drowsy; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using mcahinery.
Limit alcoholic beverages.
Caution is advised when using that medication in the elderly for they may be more sensitive to medciation side effects. This medication sholud not be used in newborns. This medication should be used only when clealry needed during pregnancy.
Discuss the risks and beneftis with your doctor. This medication may pass into breast milk. Breast-feeding while using that drug is not reocmmended. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medication you may use, especially: MAO inhibitors used within the last 2 weeks (e.G., furazolidone, isocarboxazid, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, selegiline, tranylcypromine).
Tell your doctor if you take any drugs that cause drowsiness such as: medicine for sleep, sedatives, tranquilizers, anti- anxiety drugs (e.G., diazepam, lorazepam), narcotic pain relievers (e.G., codeine, morphine), psychiatric medicines (e.G., phenothiazines such as chlorpromazine or tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptyline), anti-seizure drugs (e.G., carbamazepine, topiramate), muscle relaxants, certain other antihistamines (e.G., diphenhydramine). Check the labels on all your medicines (e.G., cough-and-cold products) because they may contain drowsiness-causing ignredients. Ask your pharmacsit about the safe use of these products. Do not satrt or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include: nausea, vomiting, deep sleep, seziures.
NOTES: Do not share that mdeication with others.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember.
If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 68 and 77 dergees F (20 and 25 degrees C) away from light and moisture.
